As from the 14th of November 2002 the DSA have introduced this test to enhance the awareness of the learners vision. It is conducted on the same computer as the theory test and a short break is aloud before starting but obviously you will not be aloud to leave your seat. The test requires you to watch clips of film taken from real life situations and for you to identify and prioritise the risks involved in each clip, once identified you then simple press a button.
Some of the topics covered are:-
Scanning and planning ahead
Looking for clues
Defining hazards
Prioritising
Reducing risks
Responding to hazards
Once you have identified and selected the danger the computer will calculate how early you spotted the developing hazard and mark you out of 5, the quicker you identify the more points you gain, to pass the hazard perception test you will need to get at least 44 points out of a possible 75. There is a safe guard built into the computer to stop anyone from just clicking every second if the computer feels you are doing this it will simple give you 0 points for the clip you are on.
After you have seen all 14 clips you will be given your mark out of 75, and then you will be able to find out weather you have passed both the theory test and the hazard perception test, if you are successful then you will be issued with a certificate there and then which you must keep to apply for your practical test and also to take with you to your practical test.
