The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) introduced the theory test in July 1996. The reason why they brought in the theory test was to show and make drivers appreciate the amount of knowledge needed to drive safely on our roads today.
You have 40-minuites in which to complete the test which consists of 35 multiple choice questions, in which 30 have to be correct. To book a test up you can use several methods first you can phone on (0870 0101 372) and with you you will need to have your credit card or debit card number, plus your driving licence number ready to quote to them. You could book a test online (www.DSA.gov.uk) and input the relevant information, also you could fill in an application form which you can get from any driving test centre and send it of to Driving Standards Agency, PO Box 148 Salford M5 3S?. The price to take a theory test is £20.50 and is conducted on a computer which can give you your result straight away, don't worry if computers aren't your best friend there is always someone there to help if you don't understand. The theory test is available in 15 different languages and for candidates with hearing difficulties or special needs extra time is given to complete the test.
If you do not pass first time there is no time limit on when you can take it again apart from the booking time, and there is no limit on the number of attempts a candidate can take.
